ROCHESTER, MN – The Willmar Stingers defeated the Rochester Honkers tonight in extra innings, 10-7.

This would be the second time in the two-game series that the Stingers and Honkers went the distance. Both games were tied at four heading into extras.

Willmar had an opportunity to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. No one was on base with two outs and the Honkers were able to get four on-base to send it to extras.

Both teams were held scoreless in the tenth and Willmar pulled away in the eleventh. The Stingers found six runs to make the score 10-7.

Aidan Byrne, Brett Bateman, and Christian Dicochea all got an RBI. Then with two outs with two runners in scoring position, Joey Walls sent his second home run out of the park to deep left center.

Walls was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game. He went 2-4 with two homers and two walks. He finished the game with five RBIs and accounted for three of the ten Stinger runs.

The Honkers didn’t go down quietly as they scored three more runs before the game ended. The Honkers were relentless as they were able to score in the bottom of every inning the Stingers put runs on the board. To finish the eleventh, Seth Miller came in with the bases loaded with the winning run at the plate. He got the final two outs for his second save on the year.

The Stingers go to 9-3 in the second half and are at the top of the Great Plains West. The Honkers move to 7-5 as they look to continue their impressive start to the second half against the Eau Claire Express.

The Willmar Stingers will travel home for six straight home games in five days. Their homestand starts tomorrow when the Waterloo Bucks come into town for a two-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
