WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers swept the season series against the Waterloo Bucks tonight, 13-2.

The Stingers won their eighth and final matchup of the season against the Bucks. The season series would end 8-0 in Willmar’s favor.

The scoring started in the bottom of the second when JT Navyac was able to send home Will Busch on an RBI single. The Bucks would respond in the top of the fourth when Waterloo’s Liam Critchett was able to score two on a single to left-center field, 2-1.

Mirroring the previous game, the game stayed close with neither team able to score until the back end of the game. The Stingers were able to take the lead after five scoreless innings as Aidan Byrne and Busch were both able to send runners home making the score 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh.

Then in the bottom of the eighth, the Stingers broke free. Willmar scored ten runs in the inning, putting an exclamation point on their win. Zac Corbin hit his third homer of the season, Will Busch hit his second double of the game clearing the bases and Will Saford hit a double himself, scoring two runs. Josh Fitzgerald and Christian Dicochea were both able to obtain RBIs before the end of the inning.

Busch was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game. He finished the game going 3-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. The catcher from North Dakota State now has four doubles on the year and 16 RBIs.

The win would be awarded to Mitch Gutknecht. The Maverick from Minnesota State-Mankato threw four perfect innings in his relief effort in his third appearance on the mound. He was a major contributor in keeping the Stingers in striking distance before they were able to pull away in the eighth.

The Willmar Stingers now have a two-game lead at the top of the Great Plains West and are looking to extend it tomorrow when the Rochester Honkers arrive for a tw0-game series. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
