WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers defeated the Rochester Honkers tonight, 13-6.
The Stingers had another big eighth inning scoring seven runs to solidify their fourth win in a row.
The bottom of the eighth started off with a two-run RBI double from Zac Corbin breaking a 6-6 tie. Corbin extended his hitting streak to 15-games and has recorded a double in his last four.
The inning continued with a two-run RBI double from the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game, Aidan Byrne. Byrne finished the game going 2-4 with a double and two RBIs.
Byrne extended a hitting streak of his own to 10-games. Byrne has gotten an RBI in his past six games and now has four games straight where he has gotten at least two hits.
The inning would continue with an RBI single from Scott Anderson and was capitalized by a two-run blast from Josh Fitzgerald. It was his first home run of the season.
2022 All-Star John Klein came in the top of the eighth inning and was awarded the win. He pitched two innings giving up no runs and struck out two batters.
The Stingers’ record moves to 33-16. They have surpassed their last season’s win total of 32 and now have won 12 out of their past 13 games. The Stingers face the Honkers again tomorrow for the final time this season. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
