WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers shut out the La Crosse Loggers in game one of their doubleheader, 1-0.

The Stingers’ third shutout of the season marks their sixth straight win. Willmar has now won 14 of their past 15 games.

The game was a pitcher’s duel as both teams’ starters performed incredibly in today’s battle. Sam Mettert started for the Loggers and Jack Zigan started for the Stingers.

It was Willmar who would get the only run of the game. The lone run came in the bottom of the third when Zac Corbin was able to advance Dalton Pearson home from third on a two-out RBI single. That base hit means that Corbin has increased his hitting streak to 17 games; an incredible feat from the infielder from Kennesaw State.

It was Jack Zigan who stole the spotlight in today’s game, shining on the mound. The Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick threw seven scoreless innings while striking out seven without giving up a single run. Zigan was named the MinnWest Technology Player of the Game for his stellar outing for the Stingers.

Brian Baker made his second appearance coming in for Zigan in the bottom of the eighth and secured the save. It was his first save of the year. He recorded five outs, four of them being punchouts.

The Stingers move to 14-3 during the second half as they continue to hold the best second-half record in the Northwoods League. Willmar now prepares for the second game of the doubleheader against La Crosse. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
