WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers defeated the Rochester Honkers, 6-5

The game began at 9:15 p.m. after a heavy rain storm delayed the original 7:05 p.m. starting time. After two hours of prepping the field, the game was ready to be played.

Rochester and Willmar were both able to score in the first inning tying the game, 1-1. It was the Stingers who were able to capitalize in the third and take a commanding lead.

Aidan Byrne and Jakob Christian both got bases-loaded RBI walks, Nick Terrell sent home a runner on a sac fly, and Jake Entrekin scored two on an RBI double.

The Honkers, like in every game they’ve faced the Stingers in the second half, wouldn’t go down without making the Stingers sweat. They scored one run in the fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth innings dwindling Willmar’s lead to one run.

Michael Chevalier came into the game at the top of the ninth to seal the deal. He was named the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game for earning his first save of the year.

The Stingers hold the Northwoods League’s best overall record in the second half and also have the longest active winning streak at five games. The Stingers continue to be a head above the rest as the wins keep on coming.

The Willmar Stingers have a big challenge tomorrow as the La Crosse Loggers come into town for a double header. The first game will start at 12:05 p.m. and the second game will start at 7:05 p.m
