WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers swept the La Crosse Loggers tonight, 5-4.

This game was the second game of the doubleheader between these two teams. The Stingers were able to win both games by a margin of one run.

It was the Loggers who got to a hot start at the beginning of the game. They started off with a two-run home run from infielder Xavier Casserilla to make the score 2-0. They would double their lead in the next inning scoring two more runs from Jack Haley and Josh Stevenson.

Even down 4-0, the Stingers didn’t back down. They started to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Jakob Christian hit an RBI double to make the score 4-1.

The Stingers would score two more runs after Aidan Byrne hit his first home run of the year scoring himself and Brett Bateman in the process.

With the score 4-3 in La Crosse’s favor, the Stingers were finally able to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Zac Corbin came up with another clutch hit with two outs sending a runner home to tie the game. Shortly after, a throwing error would send the winning run home, 5-4.

The MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Game was John Klein. Klein’s relief effort began in the sixth inning as he kept the Stingers in the game. He threw four scoreless innings while striking out seven. It was the All-Star’s third win of the season.

The Willmar Stingers now sit three games above the St. Cloud Rox for the top spot in the Great Plains West. The Stingers will travel to Eau Claire tomorrow to face off against the top team in the Great Plains East.
