WILLMAR, MN – The Willmar Stingers Walked it Off against the Bismarck Larks tonight, 7-6.
The hero of the game and the MinnWest Technology Campus Player of the Night was Drey Dirksen. His solo shot to left field with two outs was the difference maker in tonight’s game.
The Stingers got up early in the bottom of the first when Joey Walls sent his ninth ball out of the park to make the score 1-0. The Larks would respond in the top of the second with a home run of their own, 1-1.
The Larks would take the lead in the top of the third scoring two runs, 3-1. The Stingers would respond in the next half inning when Joey Walls drove in his second run of the night on an RBI single, however, the Larks would take their two-run lead right back scoring in the top of the fourth.
The Stingers would fail to score in the next two innings but would take the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Graysen Tarlow drove in a run on a sac fly in his first game in a Stinger’s uniform. The next two runs would score on a double-steal and a two-out RBI single from Aidan Byrne, 5-4.
The Larks would be down one run in the bottom of the ninth but found a way to score to tie the game, 5-5. The Stingers were unable to respond as we went to extras.
The Larks brought home a runner in the top of the tenth on a sac fly making the score 6-5. The Stingers were able to score two to walk it off for their tenth straight victory. Will Safford sent home Nick Terrell standing on third on a sac fly and then Dirksen brought it home.
The win would be attributed to Brian Baker who pitched three innings and only gave up one earned run. The loss would be given to Justin Goldstein of the Larks.
The Stingers are in search of their eleventh-straight win tomorrow when they face off against the Larks again tomorrow night. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
