The first Willmar Stinger alumni has been selected in the 2023 MLB Draft as outfielder Brett Bateman was selected with pick No. 236 in the eighth round by the Chicago Cubs.
Bateman spent both the summer of 2021 and 2022 with the Stingers playing in 58 total games.
During his time in Willmar, Bateman finished with 18 RBI and hit over .300 in both seasons.
Bateman played collegiately with the Minnesota Golden Gophers where he just finished his sophomore season.
Hitting .355 on the season to go along with 12 RBI, Bateman was named to the 2023 All-Big Ten Second Team.
Bateman now looks to begin his professional career with the hopes of playing in the Windy City.
