Shortly after Brett Bateman became the first Stinger to be selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, he was joined by catcher/infielder Ryan Johnson who was selected with pick No. 254 in the eighth round by the Houston Astros.
Johnson spent both the summer of 2019 and 2020 with the Stingers where he played a total of 32 games.
During that span, the Pepperdine product finished with 25 hits and 8 RBI as a Stinger.
Johnson just wrapped up his senior season as a Wave where he set career highs in batting average and home runs with .289 and 18 respectively.
The former Stinger now hopes to take his talents to Houston as he starts his career with the reigning World Series champion Astros organization.
