Stingers' Bats Unable to Break Through in Loss to Larks

Bismarck (33-35, 17-17) took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Keegan Landis plated Kade Schneider on a single before Blade Carver followed with another base knock that brought in Clay Cook.

Max Reimers went four innings for Freddy Smith’s squad, allowing two earned runs on four hits and five walks while striking out four.

Schneider collected an RBI in the fifth inning as he singled to left field, scoring Trevor Goodwin to extend the visitors’ lead to three.

The Larks made it 4-0 the next inning on a Luke Stulga sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. Justin Ritz struck out Trevor Goodwin one batter later to limit the damage, though, and strand two runners.

Willmar cut its deficit to one with a trio of runs in the inning’s bottom half.

Kyle Panganiban plated the team’s first run on a double into the right-center gap, then Merrick Rapoza brought home Panganiban two batters later with a sacrifice fly. Matthew Bernath smoked a liner up the middle to score David Estrada and make it 4-3.

But the visitors tacked on four runs across the final two innings to rebuild their advantage. Bismarck scored one in the eighth and Landis struck again in the ninth with a two-run single that give him a trio of RBI on the night.

Logan Boertje sealed the series opening win for the Larks with a scoreless ninth.

Kyle Panganiban was named the Les Schwab Tires Player of the Game after a 2-for-3 performance that included one run batted in and a run scored.

The Stingers will look to close out their regular season with a win Saturday on Fan Appreciation Night at Bill Taunton Stadium. First pitch against the Larks is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., with fireworks following the end of the game.
