WILLMAR–In an unprecedented offensive outburst, the Stingers lineup exploded Wednesday night for double-digit runs in a 14-9 win over the first place Rochester Honkers. After yet again spotting the opposition an early three-run lead, the Stingers broke from the script Wednesday, answering right back in the fourth inning with a seven run frame that saw eleven Willmar batters come to the plate.
Four straight singles to start the fourth and a total six hits in the inning gave Willmar a 7-3 lead. Rochester responded in the top of the fifth with two runs off Stingers reliever Michael Jahns, who got the win in his Northwoods League debut, but back came Willmar with seven runs over their final three trips to the plate to seal the victory.
With the win, Willmar moves to 6-7 on the season. Eduardo Gonzalez had a big day at the dish, going three for five with a pair of doubles, driving in three runs to match Matt Serna for the team lead in the game. Serna went hitless in his first three trips to the plate but had two RBI hits in his last two plate appearances to take back the team RBI lead from Jordan Smith, upping his season total to 12.
