ST. CLOUD, Minn. – With two outs in the eighth, JD Dorgan doubled down the left-field line to score Steven Brault from first base, breaking a 4-4 tie to propel Willmar to a 5-4 victory against the Rox at Joe Faber Field Wednesday afternoon.

The double by Dorgan sent the Stingers (13-9) to their fifth-straight victory and extended St Cloud’s (5-16) losing streak to 11 games. Dorgan (St. Thomas) finished the game 2-for-4 and picked up his fifth RBI in his last three games.

Willmar fell behind initially after St. Cloud scored three runs in the first three frames to take a 3-0 lead, but a leadoff double by Kenny Roberts (Alabama) started to change the momentum. Following a base hit by Brault, Max Kuhn (Kentucky) hit a sacrifice fly to center field to get the Stingers on the scoreboard. Roberts went 2-for-4 in the game and scored twice.

Two innings later, Willmar’s leadoff man reached again on a single by Michael Suchy (Florida Gulf Coast). Roberts followed with a base hit, bringing Brault (Regis) to the plate as the go-ahead run. Brault lived up to the title, driving a pitch over the right-field fence for his first home run, giving him 16 RBIs for the year and the Stingers their first lead of the game, 4-3.

Willmar collected 13 hits as a team, marking its third straight contest with at least 12 hits. The Stingers have now won eight of their last 10.

Andre Wheeler (Texas Tech) earned his second victory of the season with 1-1/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out two. Brady Anderson (Florida Gulf Coast) chalked up his fourth save of the year with a perfect ninth inning to preserve the one-run victory.

Willmar returns home to Bill Taunton Stadium for a Thursday night contest against St. Cloud at 7:05 p.m. It’s Bark in the Park Night presented by Hawk Creek Animal Shelter.
