St. Cloud, MN- The Willmar Stingers (16-12) grabbed game one against the St. Cloud Rox (15-10), 4-1.
Second baseman Armani Guzman and centerfielder Carter Walsh singled to start off the game. Designated hitter Liam Bushey cleared the bases with an RBI single. First basemen Matthew Pena kept the inning alive with a base hit.
In the top of the second, left fielder Cody Nitowitz singled to stop the inning and advanced to second a bunt. Walsh drove in Nitowitz with a single to extend the Stingers lead.
In the top of the fourth, Guzman unloaded for his first homerun of the year.
In the top of the seventh, Bushey singled to start the inning. Catcher Sam Hunt reached after being hit by a pitch. The Stingers were unable to capitalize.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Rox answered back with one run of their own.
In the bottom of the ninth, Wade Duncan collected his sixth save of the season.
Louis Castano made his seventh start of the season, pitching 7.0 innings of work, striking out six, and allowing just one run.
Armani Guzman went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored.
Carter Walsh went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a walk.
Wade Duncan worked a clean inning in relief, striking out one.
The Stingers will finish their series with the Rox tomorrow with the first pitch set for 6:35p.m. CT, streaming on NWL+.
