Willmar MN – The Willmar Stingers are excited to announce the hiring of our new Field Manager, Big Leaguer Jason Jácome. Coach Jácome has put together a strong career with 30 years of playing and coaching experience. After getting drafted in the 12th round in the 1991 MLB draft, Jason went on to play at the Major League level for the New York Mets, Kansas City Royals, and the Cleveland Indians.
Throughout his whole career Jason has dedicated himself to building competitive teams and helping players reach their full potential. Most recently, he has served as the Associate Head Coach at Pima Community College, his Alma Mater. During his time as a player at Pima CC, he received First Team NJCAA All-American Honors with a record of 17-2 in 1991.
“I am honored to lead the Willmar Stingers and excited to build a winning culture, develop our players, and compete for a Northwoods League championship. I can’t wait to get to work and make Willmar proud” said Coach Jácome.
Last season was Coach Jácome’s first experience in the Northwoods League. He coached the Rochester Honkers to a third-place finish in their division, one spot out of the playoffs, after the Honkers finished dead last in the league the previous season. “With the first year under his already under his belt, we are excited to see what he can do for this team and this community” said team Vice President Chris Woods.
During the off-season Jason and his wife, Lisa, reside in Tucson, Arizona with their four children: Atley (25), Addison (20), Parker (19), and Presley (18). Family and Baseball are central to Coach Jácome’s life, and he brings the same passion, leadership, and commitment to both.
