Willmar, Minn.—The Stingers are back on top! Willmar defeats Bismarck with a final score of 6-3 to split in the series. The Stingers will head to La Crosse tomorrow for a two-game series.
Trevor Divinski (Minn. State-Mankato) made the start for the Stingers. He went six complete innings and picked up the win. Divinski allowed two earned runs on six hits. He tallied three strikeouts in his six innings pitched.
Bismarck struck first in the second inning when a lone run scored off two hits. 1-0 Larks. It wasn’t until the fourth, that the Stingers started their scoring streak. Tyler Bosetti (Nevada) scored on a wild pitch during an Andrew Lucas (Northridge) at-bat. Two pitches later, Lucas had an RBI single scoring Trousdale. 2-1 Stingers. Another wild pitch scored Daniel Walsh (Sac City) during a Bosetti at-bat in the fifth. In the sixth, Walsh was able to score Trousdale on a single to left bringing the score to 4-1 Stingers.
Chris Peres (La Verne) was first in relief for the Stingers in the seventh. He came into the game with runners on first and second base. A lone run was able to score in that inning off a base hit. Peres got out of the inning allowing one run. 4-2 Stingers. In the eighth, the Larks added on a run off three hits. Aldo Fernandez (New Mexico State) came into the eight and finished the inning with a strikeout.
The Stingers added insurance runs in the ninth to extend their lead. Walsh got things going for the Stingers with a double scoring Baier. A couple batters later, Walsh was able to score from third on a throwing error by the catcher. 6-3 Stingers.
Fernandez went out for his second inning, to close things out for the Stingers. Fernandez ran into some trouble by allowing three runners on but was able to strikeout the side to end the game. The Stingers were victorious by a score of 6-3.
