(Madison, WI) The Madison Mallards have signed a quartet of players from the University of Illinois for the 2010 season, including the team’s leading hitter – junior outfielder Casey McMurray.

Adam Davis, C, Sophomore.

Davis is currently hitting .250 (9-for-36) with 2 home runs and 6 RBI over 16 games.

Adam Davis (C)As a freshman, Davis played in 14 games, starting four, and finished with 4 RBI. In his best start on May 6 against Evansville, he went 1-for-2 with an RBI, triple, two walks, and a stolen base. Last summer he played in the summer collegiate Prospect League for the DuPage Dragons and ranked fifth on the team with a .266 average.

While at Driscoll Catholic High School (Bloomingdale, Ill.), Davis set school records in career batting average (.527) and home runs (27). As a junior he hit .526 with seven home runs and 42 RBI while throwing out 60 percent of would-be base stealers. Coming out of high school he was listed as the No. 15 prospect in the state by Prep Baseball Report.

Casey McMurray, OF, Junior.

McMurray is hitting a team-best .411 (37-for-90) with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs, and 28 RBI over 25 games. His .678 slugging percentage also ranks first while his .481 on-base percentage is good for second on the team.

Casey McMurray (OF)The versatile McMurray started all 54 games as a sophomore, 49 in left field and five at designated hitter. He hit in the No. 2 spot in the batting order for all 54 contests. McMurray ranked second on the team with a .405 average with runners in scoring position and 16 two-out RBI. He led the team with six outfield assists. The accolades don’t stop there; he also had a streak of 56 games in which he reached base from May 17, 2008 to May 21, 2009, and had a career best 17-game hitting streak a year ago.

He has played for the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League the past two summers.

In 2008, McMurray was named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American after hitting .331 with 54 hits over 51 games. While with the Foresters, the team traveled to Cuba and McMurray helped the squad win the National Baseball Congress World Series. During the summer season he hit .325 with 11 RBI, 17 runs, and 7 stolen bases.

Josh Parr, INF, Sophomore.

Parr is hitting .267 (27-for-101) with six doubles, two triples, and 14 RBI over 25 games. He has also stolen 12 bases in 13 attempts.

Josh Parr (2B)As a freshman, Parr started 51 games at second base and ranked second on the team with 13 stolen bases in 20 attempts. He ranked fifth on the team with a .337 batting average and fourth with 18 multi-hit games. In the Big Ten Tournament opener, he went 4-for-5 with a double, 4 RBI, and a run scored. Parr played for the Springfield Sliders of the Prospect League last summer and was named an All-Star at shortstop.

While at Illinois Valley Central High School, Parr was named to the 2007 and 2008 Class-A All-State teams at shortstop by the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association. He was listed as the No. 34 prospect in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report.

Bryan Roberts, RHP, Sophomore.

Over 10 appearances this spring, Roberts is 0-1 with a 4.15 ERA over 13 innings of work. He has a team-high four saves and is holding opponents to a team-best .188 batting average.

Bryan Roberts (RHP)A year ago Roberts made 13 appearances on the mound for the Illini, including 10 starts. He led the team with 57 strikeouts in 69.2 innings of work. He also ranked seventh in the Big Ten in all games with 25 batters struck out looking and fifth in conference games with 17. Like teammate Davis, Roberts too played in the Prospect League for the DuPage Dragons and he led the team with a 5-2 record and 71 strikeouts, while compiling a 3.81 ERA over 54.1 innings.

After being named the Chicago Sun Times 2008 Player of the Year during which he went 9-2 with 133 strikeouts in 70.2 innings, McMurray was listed as the No. 5 recruit in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report.

His grandfather, Tom Roberts, played football at DePaul and eventually for the New York Giants and Chicago Bears.

The Madison Mallards are members of the 16-team summer collegiate Northwoods League. Opening Day is slated for Wednesday, June 2, at 7:05 p.m. against the Wisconsin Woodchucks.
