Rochester, Minn (July 3rd, 2013)--The first half of the Northwoods League season came to a close on Wednesday night in thrilling fashion. The Madison Mallards and La Crosse Loggers squared off in La Crosse for a winner-take-all title bout. Winning 12-2, the Mallards claimed the South Division title.
Duluth, Minn (July 3rd, 2013)--The Willmar Stingers saw their first half come to a close on Wednesday night, and their effort was capped off by another great pitching performance. Pitching carried the Stingers deep into the heart of a division title race before they fell short at the end.
Wisconsin Rapids, WI (July 3rd, 2013)--The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters put on a show in front of their home fans to end the first half on Wednesday. One performance in particular stood out above the rest in this first half finale.
Rochester, Minn (July 2nd, 2013)--The Waterloo Bucks secured a spot in the playoffs on Tuesday as they won the North Division championship in the first half. Meanwhile in the South, the Mallards and Loggers are tied for first with the Chinooks just a half game behind.
Duluth, Minn (July 2nd, 2013)--The Willmar Stings and Duluth Huskies both needed to sweep their double-header on Tuesday to have a realistic chance to win a first half title. In game one, Willmar sent one of their studs to the mound for a chance at accomplishing this feat.
Green Bay, WI (July 2nd, 2013)--The Green Bay Bullfrogs did not find themselves in the midst of a playoff chase on Tuesday, but they put on a heck of a show for their home fans in a 10-1 route of Wisconsin Rapids. They were led by one hitter in particular.
Rochester, Minn (July 1st, 2013)--The calendar flipped to July on Monday, and little changed in the league. With Madison and Waterloo both winning, the leads in each division were held.
Thunder Bay, Ontario (July 1st, 2013)--Perhaps the beginning of July will bring new fortune to both the Thunder Bay Border Cats and their starting pitcher Clint Knoblauch (Florida Gulf Coast). Things certainly got off to a good start on Monday.
Battle Creek, Mich (July 1st, 2013)--The Madison Mallards control their own destiny in their search for a birth in the post season. On Monday, they got a step closer by winning in convincing fashion over Battle Creek.
Former Thunder Bay Border Cat Jonathan Diaz was called up by the Boston Red Sox on Saturday. Diaz is the 105th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
