Green Bay 8, Eau Claire 3 The Bullfrogs beat the Express Friday night by a score of 8-3 in front of a crowd of 1,603. Green Bay received a great pitching performance from the whole staff who threw an eight hitter while giving up three runs and striking out six.
Catcher Dan Pellegrino (California Riverside) had one of the best offensive nights in the NWL this 2010 season. Pellegrino went 4-for-5 with one run scored and an amazing six RBI. He also homered to raise his batting average to .286. The Riverside catcher hit .283 this season in 24 games and had a .988 fielding percentage for the Highlanders.
Tony Mueller (Winona State) led his hometown La Crosse Loggers to a 5-2 win over the Battle Creek Bombers. Mueller threw 7.0 innings of two run baseball while striking out nine Bombers. The La Crosse native is currently 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA and is average a strike out an inning. For the Winona State Warriors, Mueller led the team on the mound with a 6-1 record and also was the team’s lead-off hitter. Tony hit an outstanding .439 with 27 extra base hits and 19 steals.
Green Bay 3, Wisconsin Rapids 2 Wisconsin Rapids 3, Green Bay 2 The Rafters split a pair of pitching duels, both by a 3-2 score, in a double header Thursday in Green Bay, winning the first, losing the second. After six innings in game one the Rafters had yet to score despite seven hits.
The Battle Creek Bombers beat the Madison Mallards 10-8 and were led by Brett Kauten (Spring Arbor). Kauten had a huge day at the plate going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI. He also had a walk. Kauten has helped the Bombers win their last two games in a row.
Charley Olson (Georgia State) threw 8.0 innings of scoreless baseball and only gave up two hits. Olson helped the Stingers beat the Honkers 1-0 in Willmar Thursday night. Olson struck out nine Honkers and moved his record to 1-2. Olson was 5-4 for Georgia State in 2010 with 93.2 innings pitched which led the team.
Eau Claire 4, Wisconsin 1 The Express took Wednesday night’s game from the Woodchucks due to a two run seventh inning. Nate Baumann (Augustana) reached base on an error and was drove in by college teammate, Drew Heithoff (Augustana), when Heithoff doubled.
Eduardo Gonzalez (Alcorn State) helped Willmar score 14 runs against the Rochester Honkers Wednesday night. The first basemen went 3-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI. Gonzalez had two doubles to go along with a hit by pitch. The Florida native is currently hitting .310 for the Stingers. During his sophomore season at Alcorn State he hit .350 with 26 extra base hits and 53 RBI.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats finally got back on the winning track thanks to a great pitching performance from John Tatum (McNeese State) who threw 7.0 innings of four hit baseball. Tatum moves to 1-1 on the season with a 2.65 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched.
Wisconsin 7, Eau Claire 3 The Woodchucks took game one of the double header on Tuesday night by a score of 7-3. All but one ‘Chuck had a hit and were led by Robbie De La Cruz (UNLV) who was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI.
