(Duluth, MN) — Due to the postponement of last nights game, the Huskies and Rochester Honkers played two games today with each team earning a win.  Thanks to the efforts of the Huskies staff and City of Duluth maintenance, Wade Stadium was ready to go despite the significant rainfall over the past couple days.

Corey Copping (Oklahoma) led the way in game one, tossing 4.1 innings with one earned run on four hits and seven strikeouts in the 2-1 win.  He was relieved by Jake Popovich, (Florida Southern) who earned the win with 1.1 scoreless innings.  Michael Fries (Butler) paced the Huskies offensively, with two hits and one RBI.

Game two, a 4-1 loss, saw the Huskies struggle to get much going offensively.  Alex Winkleman (SE Missouri State) was solid through 5.2 innings; allowing two earned runs on only three hits.  The Huskies managed only three hits off Rochester P Logan Spitzack in the contest.

Tomorrow will bring Southern Divisions’ Green Bay Bullfrogs to Wade Stadium, with game time set at 6:35pm.

The Duluth Huskies are a member of the finest developmental league for elite college baseball players, the Northwoods League. Playing its 21st season of summer collegiate baseball, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 18 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires and front office staff, more than 115 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer (DET) and MLB All-Stars Chris Sale (CWS), Jordan Zimmermann (WAS), Curtis Granderson (NYM), Allen Craig (STL) and Ben Zobrist (TB).
