(Duluth, MN) — Finally playing in favorable weather, the Huskies broke out of a recent slump in nearly every phase of the game. In doing so, they completed a sweep of the Alexandria Blue Anchors, winning the first game 10-4 and the second 7-4.
The first game was an offensive show for the home team. Three different players picked up three hits; Vinny Rodriguez highlighted the game with a grand slam home run over the right-center wall in the 5-run first inning. He finished a perfect 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored and four RBI. Austin Christensen (Nebraska) had three hits, an RBI, and two runs scored in his first game as a Huskie. Dom Brugnoni was the final piece of the trio, picking up three hits and an RBI. Kevin Peters (West Florida) was solid on the mound, allowing only six hits and two earned runs over six innings.
Austin Christensen turned to the mound for the second game, completing 4 1/3 innings while allowing only one run on three hits to earn the win. Michael Tinsley had two hits, one RBI, and one run scored out of the leadoff spot. Nolan Johnson picked up two hits and an RBI, Vinny Rodriguez had another hit and RBI.
The Huskies start a four game road trip in Waterloo tomorrow, with the next home stand starting next Wednesday the 18th against Mankato.
