The Duluth Huskies (18-12) beat the Alexandria Blue Anchors in an exciting high-scoring game 12-10.
The Huskies got out to a rough start by falling behind 2-0 in the first inning after giving up a walk to designated hitter Matt Hopfner who later scored on a triple from first baseman Ricky Sanchez. Sanchez later scored on another triple from right fielder Josh Merrigan to get the game started for the Blue Anchors. The Huskies countered with a 5-run inning in the 2nd. Second baseman Jimmy Heck got the inning started with a leadoff single followed by a single from third baseman Matt McLaughlin. Heck later scored on a bases loaded walk by right fielder Danny Lee.
Cal Stevenson added the big hit of the inning with a 3-run triple scoring Matt McLaughlin, TJ Martin, and Danny Lee. Stevenson scored on a dropped third strike. The Huskies added two more 3-run innings to edge out the Anchors who made the game an interesting one all the way through. Jimmy Heck led the way for the Huskies going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Alex Greene also added two hits with two RBIs as well. Ricky Sanchez led the way for the Anchors going 4 for 5 with 3 RBIs and Josh Merrigan chipped in heavily as well by going 3 for 5 also with 3 RBIs.
Jordan Cummings was the winning pitcher for the Huskies and Blake Stockert was the losing pitcher for the Blue Anchors.
The Huskies will be back at Wade on Friday the 26th to finish their two-game series with the Blue Anchors.
