Duluth, Minn. — The Duluth Huskies (2-3) dropped a tough one to the Mankato MoonDogs 15-7 losing the first game of the two-game series.
Second baseman Jack Flansburg led off the top of the 1st with a walk and shortstop Paul Panaccione advanced Flansburg to 3rd after reaching 1st on a single. Flansburg later scored on an error by the Huskies. Panaccione also scored on a sacrifice fly from left fielder Brinn Bell. The MoonDogs added five more runs in the 3rd. Brinn Bell led off the parade with a single and first baseman Craig Nennig later reached on an error by the shortstop. Catcher Kaden Moore drove in Nennig with a triple. Two more errors by the Huskies helped fill the bases. Flansburg, Moore, and Mercado-Hood all scored unearned runs for the MoonDogs in the inning.
The Huskies has their biggest inning of the game in the 6th after right fielder Elijah Dilday led off the inning with a triple. He later scored on a sacrifice fly from catcher Holden Cammack. Second baseman Matt McLaughlin was hit by a pitch and later scored off of a pinch-hit single from TJ Martin. Third baseman Elliot Barzilli added a two-RBI single scoring both Alex Greene and Colton Waltner.
TJ Martin led the way for the Huskies going 2 for 3 with 3 RBIs while Brinn Bell and Eric Schenck-Joblinske both had big games for the MoonDogs with each of them collecting 2 hits and had 7 RBIs between them. Reece Eddins was the winning pitcher for the MoonDogs while Eric Morell got the loss for the Huskies.
The action continues tomorrow (July 6th) as the Huskies conclude their two-game series with the MoonDogs at 6:35pm.
