The Duluth Huskies (4-0) swept the Thunder Bay Border Cats (0-4) in the series finale.

It was a wild night in Canada as the Duluth Huskies faced the Thunder Bay Border Cats. As the temperatures plunged the game heated up. The Huskies drew first blood thanks to two runs in the 1st inning on a Mitch Reeves single which plated Daniel Gardner and Nic Strasser. The Huskies padded that lead in the 2nd inning thanks to a bases loaded walk drew by Nic Strasser plating Reid Long and in the top of the 3rd inning thanks to a Reid Long single plating Mitch Reeves.

The Border Cats did not go down quietly however as they scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to take a 7-4 lead.

The Huskies showed great resilience by rallying in their half of the 7th inning scoring 3 runs to tie the game at 7. The runs were scored by Grant Farley, off from a Justin Smith single, David Kyriacou, off from a Daniel Gardner fielder’s choice, and Daniel Gardner, off from a Nic Strasser single and an error by the Cats right fielder.

In the bottom of the 8th inning the Border Cats threatened with a lead-off single however the threat by the Cats was halted thanks to a double play started in center field by Daniel Gardner when he made a catch in shallow center then threw to 1st doubling off the Cats runner.

 In the top of the 9th inning, Daniel Gardner doubled and came around to score the go ahead run on a Nic Strasser single. Daniel Gardner also came up big for the Huskies in the bottom 9th inning when he made a spectacular diving catch to end the game. The final score was Huskies 8 Border Cats 7.

Trevino Rodriguez gets the win. He pitched 2.0 innings allowing only 1 hit and no runs. Star players for the game include Nic Strasser who went 3-5 with a walk and 3RBIs and Daniel Gardner who went 1-3 with 3 walks and 3 runs scored including the game tying and go-ahead runs.

The Huskies have their home opener tomorrow night against the Mankato Moondogs, first pitch at Wade Stadium is set for 7:05pm. Doors open at 5:00pm. Big Wave Dave and the Ripples will be playing from 5:15-6:15pm in Wade Plaza. The game is being sponsored by the American Cancer Society and if you wear purple from head to toe fans will receive discounted ticket prices. (Reserved $9, Grandstand GA $8, Bleacher GA $7).
