The Duluth Huskies (9-11) fell to the St. Cloud Rox (13-6) Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies got off to a fast start for the second day in a row vs the St. Cloud Rox, but as luck would have it, the Huskies would again come up just short. The Huskies scored 2 in the top of the first thanks to an RBI double by Justin Ambrosino and an RBI single from Liam Sabino. After the first inning, the Rox pitchers took control of the game and the Huskies would not score again until the top of the seventh when Reid Long singled to score Sabino.

Mitch Bauer got the start and picked up the loss for the Huskies. He went 4.0 innings allowing 5 runs on 5 hits. Alex Ferguson came into the game in relief and pitched 4.0 innings allowing 1 run on 5 hits. The Huskies once again had problems defensively as they committed 4 errors accounting for 3 unearned Rox runs.

Despite the 4 errors, the Huskies defense did make a couple dazzling double plays. The first came in the bottom of the second when centerfielder Daniel Amaral made a catch in deep center for the second out then threw to 3rd to double off the runner ending the threat by the Rox. The second came in the bottom of the third when Mitch Bauer and Austin Bernard completed a strike-em-out throw-em-out double play for the first 2 outs of the inning.

The star players for the Huskies today were Liam Sabino who went 4-4 with 2 doubles, 1RBI, and 1 run scored; Daniel Amaral who went 1-4 with a double and 1 run scored; and Alex Ferguson who pitched 4.0 innings in relief allowing just 1 run on 5 hits walking 1 and striking out 2.

The Huskies have an off day tomorrow before returning home to face the Wisconsin Woodchucks Tuesday, June 21th for West Duluth Business Night. First pitch for that game is set for 6:35. For more information, contact the Duluth Huskies front office at 218-786-9909 or huskies@duluthhuskies.com
