The Duluth Huskies (12-14) fell to the Waterloo Bucks (17-8) on Sunday afternoon.

After a late game on Saturday that went into the early morning hours on Sunday, The Duluth Huskies took the field for the second game of the series vs the Waterloo Bucks. The outcome of the game would not be the same as yesterday as the Huskies fell to the Bucks 2-4.

The Huskies got off to a slow start as the Waterloo Bucks scored 3 in the top of the 1st inning. The Bucks went on to add an insurance run in the 5th inning sealing their victory.

The Huskies did not go quietly as they managed to get 13 hits. Despite the 13 hits the Huskies walked away with only 2 runs. These runs were scored in the bottom of the 2nd and the bottom of the 4th. The Huskies were able to get the first two batters on in the bottom of the 7th but after two pitching changes by the Bucks, the next three Huskies batters were all retired in order.

Corey Gaconi got the start for the Huskies and picked up the loss. He went 5.0 innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits. Gaconi was replaced by Quentin Longrie who went 2.0 innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits. Wade Regas pitched the last two innings for the Huskies allowing 0 runs on 0 hits.

The stars for the Huskies today were Mitch Reeves who went 2-2 with a double and a walk and Daniel Amaral who went 4-5.

Despite the loss the Huskies were able to have some fun today as it was Books and Baseball at Wade Stadium. All kids 8 and under received a free book that the Huskies players read to them before the game. This event was sponsored the Duluth Library Foundation in coordination with the Duluth Public Library, the Duluth Children’s Museum, and Michaels. It was a great event which was loved by the players as well as the children.

The Huskies will be on the road the next two days taking on the Mankato MoonDogs. They will return home on Wednesday, June 29th for a double header vs the Thunder Bay Boarder Cats. The first game of the double header starts at noon and the second game starts at 6:35pm. The promotion for the first game is Senior Day. Those 60 and over will receive discounted ticket prices and seat cushions from Hearing Associates while supplies last. The second game is sponsored by Grandma’s Marathon and features local mascots who will be participating in our in-between inning games.
