The Duluth Huskies (17-16) came back from an 8-0 deficit to beat the Rochester Honkers (7-25) Saturday night at Mayo Field in Rochester.

The Honkers scored quickly in the bottom of the 2nd on a homerun from Jackson Thoreson to lead off for the inning. By the bottom of the 3rd, the game started to slip away from the Huskies, with the Honkers scoring 4 runs on 5 hits. Another homerun in the bottom of the 4th, put 1 more on the board for the Honkers. The homeruns didn’t stop there, as Jacob Thomas hit a 2-run homerun, to lead the Huskies 8-0 in the bottom of the 5th. In the top of the 6th, David Kyriacou scored on a wild pitch for the first run of the night for the Huskies. The Honkers weren’t the only ones hitting homeruns, because in the top of the 7th Liam Sabino and Mitch Reeves each hit solo homeruns to add 2 to the Huskies score. It wasn’t until the top of the 8th, that the Huskies took full control of the game, scoring 10 runs, including the 2nd homerun of the night from Sabino. The Honkers were unable to score any more runs, making the final score 13-8.

Starter for the Huskies, Corey Gaconi, tossed 4.0 innings with 11 hits, 6 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. Drew Molin made his Huskies debut tossing 3.0 innings allowing 3 hits, 2 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts, he earned the win for the Huskies. Ian Schwickert came in to relieve Molin for 2.0 innings with 3 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. Starter for the Honkers, Erik Cha tossed 6.2 innings allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Stevie Ledesma receives the loss after tossing 0.2 innings with 3 this, 5 runs, 1 walk, and 1 strikeout. Hunter Van Horn and Ricky Delgado also made appearances for the Honkers.

The Huskies are back in action Sunday to face the Rochester Honkers at Mayo Field for the series finale. The Huskies will return to Wade Stadium on Monday, July 4 to battle the Willmar Stingers.
