The Duluth Huskies (19-22) fell to the Mankato MoonDogs (24-16) Sunday night.

The Huskies were looking to build off their walk-off victory last night as they traveled to Mankato today to face-off against the MoonDogs. Duluth got off to a quick start scoring a run in the top of the first when Dillon Paulson doubled to score Brett Milazzo. Unfortunately for the Huskies, they were not able to keep that momentum going.

Mankato scored 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd when Jordan Kozicky scored on an Alvaro Rubalcaba single to tie the game. Two innings later, the MoonDogs added 3 more runs; two on a Rubalcaba single and one on a Marcus Pingleton single, to make the score 4-1 MoonDogs. In the bottom of the 5th the MoonDogs Jake Shepski hit a 3-run homerun to increase Mankato’s lead to 7-1.

The Huskies were able to put 2 more runs on the board. One in the top of the 7th when Milazzo singled to Matt Brown and one in the top of the 8th when Mitch Reeves singled to score Carter Hanford. This would end the scoring, as the MoonDogs beat the Huskies 7-3.

Henry DeCaster got the start for the Huskies and earned the loss after tossing 3.2 innings allowing 4 runs on 6 hits walking 5 and striking out 3. DeCaster was replaced by Drew Mullinax. Mullinax tossed 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits walking 2 and striking out 3. Alex Ferguson came in and pitched the 8th for the Huskies, retiring all three batters he faced on fly balls.

Brett Milazzo made his debut for the Huskies Sunday night. He went 3-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Carter Hanford also had a big night for the Huskies going 3-3 with 2 doubles, 1 walk, and one run scored.

The Huskies will take the field again tomorrow night in Mankato before returning to Duluth. The Huskies will be back at Wade Stadium on Tuesday, July 12th to battle the La Crosse Loggers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
