The Duluth Huskies (24-32) lost to the La Crosse Loggers (27-28) Friday night at Wade Stadium.
The Duluth Huskies dropped their 5th straight game with a 7-5 loss to the Loggers.
The Huskies came out of the gates strong scoring a run in each of the first 2 innings. The Huskies put their first run on the board when Daniel Amaral scored on a Jake Pries ground out in the bottom of the 1st. Then, in the second inning Matt Brown hit a solo homerun to extend the Huskies lead to two.
The 3rd inning is when things went south for the Huskies as the Loggers knocked 5 runs across the plate.
The Huskies kept battling however and scored 1 run in the 5th when Brendan McClary scored on a Pries single and 1 run in the 7th when Amaral scored on a Pries double. After 7 innings the Huskies were only trailing the loggers 4-5 and seemed to be gaining momentum.
The top of the 9th saw some strange plays and two runs for the Loggers making the score 7-4 heading into the bottom of the 9th. The Huskies were able to put a run across in the bottom of the 9th when Pries scored on a Dillon Paulson single. At the end of the night, the scoreboard read Loggers 7 Huskies 5.
Fred Manke got the start for the Huskies and picked up the loss after tossing 3.0 innings and allowing 5 runs, 1 earned, on 6 hits while walking 3 and striking out 0. Matt Hanson, the newest Huskies player, then entered the game in relief of Manke. Hanson tossed 2.0 innings allowing 0 runs on 0 hits while walking 2 and striking out 1. Reid Long was the third Huskies pitcher of the night. Long tossed 1.0 inning allowing 0 runs on 2 hits. Ian Schwickert came into the game in relief of Long and tossed 2.0 innings allowing 0 runs on 1 hit while striking out 3. Quentin Longrie pitched the 9th inning for the Huskies and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits while walking 2.
Jake Pries had another great night at the plate for the Huskies. Pries went 3-4 with a 2B, run scored and 3RBIs.
The Huskies will be on the road for the next 3 days. They play Saturday and Sunday in La Crosse finishing up their 4 game split-series with the Loggers before heading across the border Monday to battle the Border Cats in a double header.
The Huskies will be back at Wade Stadium Tuesday, August 2nd to battle the Rochester Honkers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 with gates opening at 5:35.
