Strong pitching and timely hitting led the Duluth Huskies (28-40) to victory over the Eau Claire Express (43-25) Wednesday night at Carson Park.

The Huskies jumped out to an early lead in Eau Claire as Daniel Amaral who walked then stole second and third scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning Carter Hanford hit a 2 run homerun to left-center to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead after the 1st inning. The Huskies added to that lead in the top of the 2nd when Chase Barbary and Brendan McClary scored on an error by the Express second baseman.

After the second inning, both teams settled in and no runs were scored in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th frames. The Huskies added another run in the top of the 6th when Matt Brown scored on a McClary single. The following inning, the Huskies scored their 7th and final run when Brown doubled to score Brett Milazzo.

The Express were able to get a couple runs on the board in the bottom of the 7th when Kyle Marinconz doubled to score Cody Bohanek and Connor Olson. At the end of the game, the scoreboard read Huskies 7 Express 2.

Corey Gaconi got the start for the Huskies and earned the victory after tossing 5.2 innings allowing 0 runs on 4 hits while walking 3 and striking out 3. Drew Mullinax relieved Gaconi and earned the save after tossing 3.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 3.

Brendan McClary had a multi-hit game for the Huskies going 2-3 with a walk, RBI, and run scored.

 The Huskies return home tomorrow, Thursday August 11th, to battle the Rochester Honkers. First pitch from Wade Stadium is scheduled for 6:35.

On Thursday, August 11th the Huskies are hosting Wrestling at the Wade. Gates will open at 4:45 for people to come in and watch three pro wrestling matches as the Barking Spiders take on Pink Nation featuring Ryota Chikuzen, a pro wrestler from Japan who is flying in just for this match with his camera crew to film a documentary. Bell time for this event is 5:15 with the matches ending at 6. Those wearing wresting attire will receive advanced ticket prices verses game day ticket prices. Following the wresting match, the Huskies will take the field to battle the Rochester Honkers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 with special guest “Wild” Bill Irwin, a former AWA Superstar, throwing out the first pitch.
