Wednesday Night at the Races Year-End Picnic
New location for final 2016 Wednesday Night at the Races
(Duluth, Minn.) The Young Athletes Foundation, Grandma’s Marathon and the Duluth Huskies invite
Northland children 14 and under to lace up their shoes and take the field for the season-end finale of
Wednesday Night at the Races followed by a year-end picnic at Wade Stadium.
This is the first year the Young Athletes Foundation and Duluth Huskies have partnered to host the final race of
the series and year-end celebration at Wade Stadium.
The event is free and all finishers receive a Wednesday Night at the Races t-shirt upon the completion of their
race. Registration is between 5:00 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. and the races begin at 6 p.m. with the youngest going
first. Following the races, there will be a free, year-end picnic celebration catered by Green Mill with special
guest Harlie D. Huskie.
Age categories and distances for boys and girls: (may change due to weather conditions)
Wheelchair division – 1/8 mile
4 & under – 1/8 mile
5 & 6 – 1/8 mile
7 & 8 – 1/4 mile
9 & 10 – 1/4 mile
11 & 12 – 1/2 mile
13 & 14 – 1/2 mile
The 2016 races have been held each Wednesday since July 27 at different locations including East High School,
University of Minnesota-Duluth, Hermantown High School, Superior High School and drew over 300 area
children each week. The events are hosted by the Young Athletes Foundation (YAF), a Grandma's Marathon
program that focuses on the promotion and development of healthy and active lifestyles for youth throughout
the region. Since its inception in 1990, the YAF has contributed more than $840,000 to area nonprofit youth
athletic organizations.
Wednesday Night at the Races is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and sponsored by St.
