Stassi is the 164th former Northwoods League player to debut in MLB
Rochester, Minn. – Former Wisconsin Woodchuck, Brock Stassi, made his Major League debut for the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, April 3, 2017. Stassi is the 164th former Northwoods League player to reach the Major League level.
Stassi, who played collegiately at the University of Nevada-Reno, played for the Wisconsin Woodchucks in 2010. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 33rd round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
In 2010 with the Woodchucks, Stassi hit .260 with 11 doubles, six home runs and 23 runs driven in.
Stassi started his Minor League career in 2011 with the Williamsport Crosscutters in the Short Season A New York-Penn League. Over 50 games he hit .200 and drove in 14 runs while stealing three bases.
He spent the 2012 season with three teams. After three games with the Clearwater Threshers of the Hi-A Florida State League he was sent to the Lo-A Lakewood BlueClaws of the South Atlantic League. After 59 games in Lakewood he returned to Williamsport to finish out the season. Between the three clubs he hit a combined .243 with three home runs, three triples, 10 doubles and 33 runs driven in. He also tacked on six steals.
The 2013 season saw Stassi once again in Clearwater. Over 89 games he hit .295 with 11 doubles, five triples and three home runs. He also drove in 32 runs and stole eight bases.
Stassi spent the 2014 season in the AA Eastern League with the Reading Fightin Phils. In 124 games, he hit .232 and drove in 44 runs. He also had eight home runs, three triples and 12 doubles.
Once again in Reading for the 2015 season he played in 133 games and had a career season hitting .300 with 15 home runs, 32 doubles and 90 runs driven in.
Stassi was promoted to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs of the AAA International League for the 2016 season. In 117 games, he hit .267 with 12 home runs and 26 doubles. He also drove in 58 runs.
In his Major League debut against the Cincinnati Reds, Stassi entered the game in the top of the 8th inning as a pinch-hitter for Edubray Ramos. Facing Michael Lorenzen, Stassi drew a five-pitch walk. He would then advance to second base on a wild pitch before the inning ended on a flyout by Cesar Hernandez.
