Hitting coach joining Duluth by way of LSU-Shreveport

Duluth, Minn.- The Huskies have a new hitting coach for 2021. Jeffrey Chapuran, a first-year assistant coach with the Pilots of LSU-Shreveport, will spend the summer developing hitters at Wade Stadium. Prior to spending last season with hitters and infielders for the DII Juco National Champion Northern Oklahoma College-Enid, Chapuran helped lead Tates Creek High School to a Kentucky State Championship, according to lsusathletics.com. “I feel as though my strengths revolve around my ability to make relationships with people and communicate and connect with players,” says Chapuran, who cited the Huskies as an upstanding, incredibly well-run organization-a key reason he is excited to join the Huskies. “That along with my respect for Coach Pointer led me to want to join.”

According to their official page, LSUS Pilots Head Coach Brad Neffendorf acknowledged how impressive it is that Coach Chapuran has been a part of multiple winning programs. “Jeff has been a part of some very successful programs, coming to us from Northern Oklahoma Enid, who won the 2019 NJCAA D2 National Title. He is also come off stint at Tates Creek HS in Lexington, KY where he helped lead them to the KY High School State title,” Neffendorf said. “I was blown away by his energy and plan for development on the position side of the ball, and he will be someone our position players will be benefit from greatly!” Huskies General Manager Greg Culver echoed those sentiments, citing Chapuran’s winning pedigree and energy as two impressive traits he brings to the table.

Coach Chapuran says that while not having sports in 2020 was tough, he enjoyed spending more quality time with his family back in Kentucky-one of his favorite past-times. “This was time I would have otherwise not gotten to spend with them,” he stated. “And that made life without baseball just a little bit better.” The eager assistant says he is most looking forward to learning under an excellent Head Coach and Front Office while developing relationships with players from across the country.
