Duluth, Minn.- The Huskies are happy to announce that the organization will once again be accepting applications for the “Share the Glove” grant, courtesy of the Northwoods League Foundation.

More than $55,000 in youth softball and baseball equipment will be disbursed by the Northwoods league Foundation through the ‘Share the Glove’ grant this Spring, with the goal to continue to use the game of baseball to enrich the quality of life for children and families of Northwoods League communities. Twenty-two equipment grants will be awarded to various youth softball and baseball organizations across these communities. “’Share the Glove’ embodies not only the mission of the Northwoods League Foundation, but the spirit of the League and its affiliates,” said the Foundation’s secretary, Gary Hoover. “We look forward to further inspiring participation in, and love for, the games of baseball and softball throughout our communities.”

What is the grant?

The grant is a standardized set of Rawlings equipment, sized for youth ages 9-12; eleven (11) grants each for baseball and softball, respectively. Each grant will include:

  • one (1) full set of catcher’s gear
  • eight (8) batting helmets
  • ten (10) fielding gloves (8 right, 2 left)
  • one (1) bucket of size-specific practice balls
  • six (6) bats of varying sizes

 

Who is eligible to receive the grant?

The following criteria must be met to be eligible to receive the grant:

  1. Your organization qualifies as a 501(c)(3) organization, school, or school-based program, or community-based organization as defined under US IRC section 501(c)(3)
  2. Your organization is not an individual, for-profit business, political, or religious organization
  3. Your organization provides opportunities for kids age 9-12 to play baseball or softball within a community that is served by an Northwoods League affiliate

The Huskies organization will be accepting softball grant applications from organizations within our community in 2021.
