The Duluth Huskies (12-15) fall to the Mankato MoonDogs (17-10), 8-1 in game one of the two game series Monday night.
Mankato scored right away in the bottom of the 1st after a single from Bryce Adams. Then the MoonDogs really took control in the bottom of the 2nd scoring 3 after a leadoff triple from Gavin Wehby to make the score 4-0. Marcus Pingleton added to the MoonDog’s lead with a homerun in the bottom of the 7th. The bottom of the 8th was another big inning for the MoonDogs scoring another 3 on two different singles from Drew Fearing and Bryce Adams. The lone run for the Huskies came in the top of the 9th after a single from Reid Long, who would later advance to second on a balk, which put him in scoring position for Austin Bernard. Bernard earns an RBI with Long scoring from second base on a single. The Huskies efforts fell short, leaving the final score at 8-1.
Alex Vesia started for Mankato tossing 7 innings allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 3 walks, and 5 strikeouts. Vesia received the win for the MoonDogs. Starter for the Huskies, Logan Browning, tossed 5 innings with 6 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks, and 10 strikeouts. Trevino Rodriguez came in to relieve Browning for 2.1 innings allowing 5 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, and 1 strikeout. Alex Ferguson came in for 0.2 innings to finish the game for the Huskies.
The Huskies will finish the series against the MoonDogs Tuesday night and will be back at home Wednesday. Wednesday is a double header for the Huskies against the Thunder Bay Border Cats. The first game starts at noon, with gates opening at 11 for Senior Citizens Day at the Ballpark. All fans over 60 receive admission for $4. Game 2 starts at 6:35 for Mascot Olympics.
