The Duluth Huskies (15-16) got back into the win column on Friday evening after defeating the Bismarck Larks (15-17) in a late-inning thriller, 9-7.
The Huskies went down early but struck for five runs in the top of the third inning. After Kyle Hubbuch was gunned down at home on a sacrifice fly attempt, the Huskies rallied with two outs. Chase Strumpf singled home two runs, followed by doubles from Camryn Williams and Jake Pries. Luke Roskam finished the inning with a RBI single.
The Larks kept the game interesting, scoring two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. They knocked out the Huskies’ starter Nick Scheidler (1-0) in the third after the UCLA freshman pitched 2.1 innings.
Chase Strumpf added his third RBI of the game on a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth, and the Huskies didn’t look back from there.
Closer Kevin Folman came in to punch out Ryan Anderson in the eighth to escape a jam. He would eventually pick up a four-out save.
