It was an absolute shootout at Wade Stadium as the Duluth Huskies (4-3) dropped a close one to the Bismarck Larks (3-4) by a score of 7-6.
The Larks jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead that was highlighted by a two-run home run by first baseman Ryan Anderson. It was the second night in a row that the Huskies found themselves down early.
Starter Nick Scheidler (1-0, 8.21) pitched four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out four and walking two. The Huskies got good relief work from Colin Baumgard (0-1, 2.70) who went three innings, allowing just a single run.
The Huskies answered back in the fourth, scoring four. Kyle Hubbuch and Jake Smith provided RBI doubles. The Huskies would score again in the fifth and the game was tied at 5.
Bismarck finally pulled away in the sixth after Newt Johnson singled home Wyatt Ulrich and they’d add one more insurance run in the seventh thanks to a Cooper Coldiron RBI single. The Larks totaled 11 hits on the night.
Rob Emery made things a bit closer with a solo home run in the eighth, and the Huskies got the tying-run to scoring position in the eighth and the ninth buy couldn’t even things up.
The Huskies now drop into a tie for second in the North Division. They’ll take on the Larks in game two of the series tomorrow. It’s Bark at the Park night for the Huskies, all dogs are welcome on leashes. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 with gates opening at 5:35.
