New Season, Completely New Team For Cook

The Duluth Huskies Baseball Club is thrilled to announce the new signing of Sophomore Billy Cook from the Pepperdine University. Cook has something a little unique about him, he already played in the Northwoods league for the last two seasons for the Thunder Bay Border Cats.

Cook was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and comes from a family of athletes as his father played basketball in the Air Force Academy, Mother, volleyball and basketball at the Air force Academy and Grandpa played baseball at Wyoming. Along with an uncle that played football in college. Cook decided to be a student-athlete at Pepperdine due to “the great academics, sports, location and coaches.”

As for his freshman year at Pepperdine, he had a batting average of .248 in 44 games which included 29 hits and 13 RBIs. Cook mostly played third and first base and made a .962 fielding percentage. He finished his freshman year with earning the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll “bronze” honor and becoming a Pepperdine Scholar- Athlete.

Cook’s success didn’t start at Pepperdine. He had a successful high school career at Lewis-Palmer in Monument, Colorado. Cook played all four years on the varsity team and produced a .489 batting average, .584 on-base percentage, 81 RBI, and 79 total runs. His success was noticed with the winning of the Gazette Player of the year his senior year, along with All-state 4A three times and All-Conference first team. His success continued off the field as he was student body Vice president and an All-State Academic first team three years in a row.

The momentum kept building in the 2018 season for his time spent with the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Cook built up a .300 batting average, four home runs and 39 RBIs in the 62 games he played. He also played in the 2018 All Star Game and the 2018 Major League Dreams Showcase. It will be exciting to see what he can do for the Duluth Huskies.

In the upcoming season look for this goal crushing player on Sunday June 2nd, 2019 when the Huskies open up their home season against the Eau Claire Express. Until then, don’t forget to stay connected with the Huskies on the official website duluthhuskies.com and on all social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
