Bismarck, N.D. – In a scorching afternoon in Bismarck, it was the case of one inning destroying the Huskies yet again in their fourth game of the season, falling 7-4. The 4th inning this time was the downfall. In that 4th inning, the Huskies evened it up at 1-1 in the top half and then… the bottom half. The Larks batted around against Huskies’ starter, Jonathan Guzman, and relief pitcher, Michael Altman. The Bismarck ‘Doughnuts’ (the Larks donned Doughnut themed, auctioned uniforms Thursday night) scored 6 runs on 4 hits and used one critical Duluth error to their advantage.
Guzman pitched a good three innings until the 4th came around. He finished with three and one-thirds innings pitched, allowing 5 hits, 6 runs (4 earned), 3 walks and did not strike out a batter. He dueled Larks’ starter, Derek Shoen who, although not earning the win, pitched a solid four innings and was deserving of getting the W next to his name. Ryan Bourassa was coined as the winning pitcher due to Shoen not throwing five innings into the game. Connor Semone was a bright spot for the Huskies late in the ballgame when he relieved Michael Altman. After struggling mightily in the opener, Semone tossed three scoreless innings allowing only one hit. He walked four but did not allow a run.
The 9th inning provided some fireworks for the Huskies. The offense finally found a spark, but it was too late. Duluth almost batted around against Bismarck closer, Paxton Miller and put the tying run at the dish with two outs in the top half of the inning. Michael Sarhatt, the only true two-way player currently for the Huskies, was put in a tough spot out of the five hole. He checked his swing and grounded out to Miller to end the game, causing the brooms to be brought out for the first time in this young season.
