Green Bay has eight games left

by: Manny Rodriguez

ASHWAUBENON, Wis. The Green Bay Booyah fell to the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters in extra innings on Friday, 9-8.

Down 1-0 entering the fifth inning, Brett Blair (Stanford) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Darius Barton (Grambling State). The scoring wouldn’t stop there as a sacrifice fly by Nathan Blasick (West Virginia) scored Brendan Ryan (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi) to give the Booyah a 2-1 lead. Jack Duffy (Polk State College) then drove in Tristin Garcia (Western Kentucky) on a weak groundball that hit the bag at third base. Blair then scored on a wild pitch to cap off a four-run inning.

In the sixth, after seeing their lead get cut down to one, Green Bay scored another two when Ryan hit a sacrifice fly that scored Johnny Hipsman (Richmond) and when Garcia hit a single to center field that scored Nadir Lewis (Princeton).

The Rafters then scored five unanswered runs, including three in the bottom of the eighth inning to take a two-run lead. With Lewis standing at first base in the top of the ninth, Garcia hit a no-doubt home run over the right field wall to tie it at eight. The Booyah were able to keep the Rafters silent in the ninth to go to extras.

After Green Bay was unable to score in the top of the 10th inning, the Rafters were able to work a bases loaded walk with two out to walk-off on the Booyah, 9-8.

Boston Mabeus (BYU) pitched four innings in the start, allowing three hits, one run and two walks while punching out four men. He gets a no-decision.

The Booyah will hit the road again tomorrow as they travel to Fond du Lac to take on the Dock Spiders. First pitch from Herr-Baker Field is scheduled for 6:35 pm. Carl Cano (St. Thomas) will get the start. He is 0-2 with a 6.75 earned run average.
