In the nightcap, Van Putten's stat line was similar, 1-4 with a stolen base and run scored – but the story behind that run and steal is much more dramatic. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 9th, Van Putten stole home plate – one of baseball's rarest plays – to make Calvin walk-off winners. The play received national news attention, including appearing on MLB.com. Van Putten is batting .337 with a home run, 12 RBI, and 22 stolen bases thru 25 games in 2014.
