KALAMAZOO, MI – Two Kalamazoo College Hornets are the latest additions to the 2017 Growlers roster. Freshmen Thomas Brumfield and Ryan Franklin will suit up for the blue and gold this summer. This recruiting trail update is presented by OnStaff Group.

LHP – Thomas Brumfield, 5'10" (L/L) Freshman, Kalamazoo College

Is he the batter who can pitch, or the pitcher who can hit? Brumfield is from Royal Oak, Michigan, and attended Bishop Foley High School. As a senior he batted .381 with 12 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a fielding percentage of .973. On the bump, Brumfield posted a 3-0 record in 7 appearances. He finished the season with an ERA just south of 2.00 (1.97), striking out 26 batters in 32 innings pitched, and walking in 18 opponents. Brumfield is ranked 47th in the state of Michigan according to Maxpreps.com.

 

 

 

RHP – Ryan Franklin, 6'2" (R/R) Freshman, Kalamazoo College

Franklin is a Brentwood, Tennessee, native. As a senior at Brentwood Academy he finished with a record of 6-2 and an ERA of 1.185. He punched out 81 batters while only walking 22 in a total of 65 innings pitched, carrying Brentwood Academy to the Division II state finals in the process (27-13 team record). Franklin was the 2016 Tennessee DII Senior Player of the Year. He was named to the Division II AA All-Region Team, the Division II All Senior Team, the All-Williamson County Pre-Season Team, and the All-Williamson County Team.
