KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Growlers (33-34, 12-19) couldn’t maintain a hot start in a 12-4 loss against the Royal Oak Leprechauns (39-28, 20-11) Monday night.

The Growlers scored first, finding four runs in the second inning, but the Leprechauns bounced right back, adding two runs in the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Royal Oak continued to explode, as each of the first eight batters earned either a run or RBI. After four innings, the Leprechauns led 8-4.

The game settled down, with neither team scoring again until the eighth inning, when Mateo Noto launched a solo home run. In the top of the ninth inning, the Leprechauns took advantage of two Growler errors to score three runs.

The loss ends Kalamazoo’s three-game winning streak and puts the Growlers back below .500.

Kalamazoo and Royal Oak are back in action on Tuesday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT.
