KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Kalamazoo Growlers (33-35, 12-20) made too many defensive mistakes in a 6-5 loss to the Royal Oak Leprechauns (40-28, 21-11) on Tuesday night.

Royal Oak strung four two-out base hits together in the first inning, scoring two runs. However, Logan Tribble hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 2-2 after one inning.

From there, two spot starters, Parker Aten and Taylor Falls found their stride, as the game didn’t see another run until the seventh inning.

The Leprechauns scored a run on back-to-back errors in the seventh inning, taking a 3-2 lead through seven innings.

A two-out single put Royal Oak up two runs, but Trevor Johnson came through with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning, moving the score to 4-3.

In the ninth inning, the Leprechauns added insurance. Connor Larkin hit a leadoff home run and Mateo Noto drove in a run on a single.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, two walks and a single loaded the bases with nobody out. A strikeout was followed by a Josh Campbell RBI single and an Isaac Vanderwoude sacrifice fly, placing the tying run on second base.

However, Tribble struck out swinging as the Growlers left an opportunity on the bases.

Aten was the star for Kalamazoo, throwing 6.2 innings while allowing just two earned runs. The right-hander struck out four batters and didn’t allow a free pass. However, the Kalamazoo defense made three errors.

The Growlers are back in action on Wednesday night, facing the Richmond Flying Mummies in the final home series of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT.
