Homer Stryker Field

The Kalamazoo Growlers play 36 home games every summer at Homer Stryker Field at Kalamazoo’s Mayors’ Riverfront Park (251 Mills Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49048).

Homer Stryker Field seats over 3,500 fans. It originally opened in 1963 and has been home to two Frontier League teams, the Kalamazoo Kodiaks and the Kalamazoo Kings, as well as numerous youth, high school and collegiate tournaments.

The Growlers have continued to renovate Homer Stryker Field each offseason to create one of the most comfortable, unique and fan friendly ballparks in the country.

Some improvements include; adding the Miller Lite Trap in left field, the Oberon Oasis in right field, the Home Plate Club located in the main grandstand along with an improved the sound system and concession outlets.

The Growlers play in the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate baseball league for players with remaining college eligibility. The Northwoods League features 26 teams, who are located throughout Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota and even Canada.

Hundreds of Northwoods League alumni have made it to the major leagues, including Jordan Zimmerman, Max Scherzer, Curtis Granderson, Andy Dirks, Drew Smyly and Chris Sale.

Ballpark Improvements & Renovations

Upgraded Seats

In Spring 2026, the City of Kalamazoo upgraded the ballpark’s previous bucket-style seating to traditional, green stadium seats.

The newly installed Aura Stadium Chairs provided a more ergonomic design and exceptional durability.

They featured rust-resistant, powder-coated aluminum stanchions built to ensure a long lifespan at the ballpark.

During the project, a total of 366 new seats were installed in sections 100-104, with an additional 244 seats added to sections 200-204 behind the Growlers’ home dugout.

To maintain the premium fan experience, the convenient food and drink rails in sections 100-104 remained in place.

Despite the significant upgrades, ticket prices in those sections were not raised.

The new premium seats were made available exclusively as part of the all-inclusive Meijer 5-Game Miniplans.

This community project was made possible by a $170,154 investment from the City of Kalamazoo and was completed by local company Interkal, ensuring a significantly improved game-day experience for all fans.

Interkal is a local company that provides seating options that are ADA-compliant and with the strongest understructure in the stadium seating industry. It is a company that serves industries worldwide and is based in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Protective & Extended Foul Ball Netting

In Spring 2026, the City of Kalamazoo approved and installed new foul ball netting. It will extend significantly beyond its previous location at the dugout edges, adding 178 feet of coverage down the first-base line and 260 feet down the right-field line.

The netting height will vary to maximize protection:

  • Left Field to Home Plate to Third-Base Bleachers: 30 feet high.
  • Miller Lite Trap to Right-Field Foul Pole: 12 feet high.

The netting is a standard Vulcan Black HP color with 95% open mesh area that is easy to see through and has a minimal impact on fan sightlines from around the stadium.

The squares inside of the netting measure a standard 1-¾” and have a 530 pound minimum breaking strength.

The necessity of this upgrade is backed by physics. Foul balls can reach exit velocities between 95 mph and 105 mph, leaving a fan 60 feet away with only 0.4 seconds to react—roughly the same time it takes to blink.

Protective netting is the primary defense against common stadium injuries such as concussions, facial fractures, and dental trauma.

Protective netting has been in professional stadiums for many years.

In 2015, the MLB Commissioner’s Office initiated a new safety netting policy, recommending teams extend netting to the ends of dugouts.

In 2018, all 30 MLB teams were required to install protective netting, extending to each end of the dugout or 70 feet from home plate.

Hockey Dasher Boards

The Northwoods League Foundation, the City of Kalamazoo and the Kalamazoo Growlers partnered to install a one-of-a-kind accessible seating upgrade to Homer Stryker Field in April 2018.

The improvement incorporated hockey dasher boards as the new barrier and backstop for the area behind home plate.

This added 82 accessible seats, an improved view for the entire home plate section, and add new field level seats called The Dugout Club & The Backstop.

The goal for the project was to provide access to our most premium areas of the ballpark that weren’t accessible in prior years.

Accessibility is a priority for the Growlers organization and the city of Kalamazoo and thankful for the Northwoods League Foundation made this commitment to the community.

Video Board Display

A new 20’x28′ Eaton LED Video Board was installed at Homer Stryker Field in April 2018.

The Kalamazoo City Commission approved the purchase of a LED video display board from Daktronics, splitting the cost with the Growlers.

With the video board also presented cameras, staff, additional equipment and an upgraded in-game entertainment experience for fans at all events in the ballpark.

The video board does not display any other advertising outside of the naming of the Eaton LED Video Board – one of the only of its kind in the industry.
