Kalamazoo, Mich. – In heartbreaking fashion, the Kalamazoo Growlers lose game one up in Traverse City, falling 3-2 to the Pit Spitters.
The two top teams in the Great Lakes East traded runs both in the second and the fourth. Both runs for the Growlers came from offense that started with two outs in the inning. A walk and a stolen base brought up Cam Conley in the second inning and Conley came through with his fifth RBI on a single to right field. Conley would again come up in the fourth with Joey Johnston at second after a single and an error and drive him home on another RBI single, this time to center field.
Portage native and K-Zoo starter Sam Carlisle would provide a quality start in his second outing of the season. Through five innings, Carlisle struck out six while only walking one and giving up just one earned run.
The Pit Spitters would find the edge in the eighth inning after an RBI single from Glenn Miller gave Traverse City their first lead of the game.
K-Zoo had a chance with a runner at third in Savi Delgado with one out in the ninth inning but couldn’t bring him home. A lineout to second from Cam Conley and a ground out to third from Myles Beale finalized the ballgame and dropped the Growlers to 5-4 on the season.
The Growlers and Spitters are back in action tomorrow morning at 11:05 a.m. The game can be watched live on ESPN+.
