Kalamazoo has a way of surprising people. Warm nights, packed patios, live music spilling out of open doors, and an arts scene that gives bigger cities a run for their money. Sitting right in the middle of it all is one of the region’s most fun summer nights out: a Kalamazoo Growlers game at Honor Credit Union Stadium.

Whether you’re looking for a night out with the family, a reason to get off the couch, or just something different to do on a Friday evening, Kalamazoo delivers all summer long. Let’s take a look at all Kalamazoo has to offer, and why a Growler’s game should be at the top of your list.

What Is There to Do in Kalamazoo This Summer?

The summer calendar in Kalamazoo runs deeper than most people expect. The city’s performing arts scene stays active all season, with Farmers Alley Theatre staging productions through the warmer months.

For people who’d rather just be outside, the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail offers miles of well-maintained paths through the city and surrounding areas, drawing cyclists, runners, and walkers from across southwest Michigan. Asylum Lake Preserve, tucked just west of Western Michigan University’s campus, is a quieter option for anyone looking to slow down and get some air.

Every June, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts Fair takes over Bronson Park in the heart of downtown — a two-day juried arts fair that draws more than 15,000 visitors and has been a community anchor for 75 years.

And then there’s a Growlers game.

It’s a different kind of summer night than any of the above. It’s louder, more social, and designed from the ground up to be fun for everyone, whether you follow baseball or have never watched an inning in your life.

What Are the Kalamazoo Growlers?

The Kalamazoo Growlers are a summer collegiate baseball team and a proud member of the Northwoods League — one of the most prominent summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. Players are active college athletes, many of them top NCAA Division I talent, who compete during the summer months while maintaining their collegiate eligibility. In other words, the level of play is genuinely impressive.

The Growlers are entering their 13th season in 2026, having called Kalamazoo home since 2014. They are two-time Northwoods League Champions — winning the title in 2022 and 2024 — and one of the most attended teams in the league year after year.

One of the things that sets the Growlers apart from a lot of sports organizations is who’s behind them. The team is locally owned by Brian Colopy — not a franchise, not a corporate operation. As Marketing Director Isaac Bugarin puts it, local ownership means the team can make decisions that put fans first.

“We don’t have to run questions and change up a chain of leadership to follow strict rules — we just do what’s right for the fan every single time,” he says. “The same people who operate the team are your neighbors in Kalamazoo and Portage who care deeply about the lives of fans in the community. Every phone call to a fan, every survey read, and every social media post is created by someone who lives in this community and loves it.”

That local identity runs deep. The team’s Jr. Growlers program keeps the organization connected to youth baseball in the community year-round, long after the season ends.

From the ballpark to the broader Kalamazoo community, the Growlers have built something that goes well beyond the game itself. And it all happens at one of the best small ballparks in the Midwest.

Where Do the Kalamazoo Growlers Play?

The Growlers play at Honor Credit Union Stadium, located at 251 Mills Street in Kalamazoo. Honor Credit Union Stadium got its new name this year through a naming rights partnership, but the field itself still bears its longtime name: Homer Stryker Field. For anyone who has visited before, it still feels like home.

The 2026 season marks the first year with two notable upgrades. A total of 1,028 new Aura Stadium Chairs have been installed, which are ergonomically designed, rust-resistant, and built to last. If you’ve been to a game in previous years, you’ll notice the difference immediately. The stadium also has extended foul ball netting for the first time, protecting fans throughout much of the seating area. The netting uses a 95% open mesh design, so sightlines are largely unaffected.

Inside the stadium, the Kalsee Kub Zone gives younger fans a dedicated space to run around. It features seven giant inflatables in a secure area where kids can move freely, and parents can actually relax. It’s one of the details that makes a Growlers game genuinely work for families, not just baseball fans.

Honor Credit Union Stadium is also available for facility rental outside of game days, making it a venue option for corporate events and private gatherings throughout the year.

The experience at Honor Credit Union Stadium is designed to be memorable. And the Growlers have made sure the ticket prices match that same spirit of accessibility.

What Happens at a Growlers Game Besides Baseball?

A Growlers game is all about the experience first and baseball second, says Bugarin..

“Our goal is to help you feel one of four emotions with every interaction: Think, Laugh, Cry (happy tears), or Love,” he says. “We try to make the fan experience an exceptional one from the moment they buy tickets online to seeing a video on our Facebook from the game they attended and everywhere in between.”

That philosophy puts the full evening ahead of any single element, including the game itself. Across a 36-game home schedule, 15 nights carry a dedicated theme or event. That’s nearly one in every 2.4 home games with something extra built in.

The 2026 promotional calendar includes Swiftie Night on June 13 features both teams wearing custom jerseys — one resembling a wedding dress, the other a suit — themed to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding. It’s the kind of creative, specific concept that doesn’t happen at larger professional leagues.

Toy Story Night on July 11 brings Disney on Dirt to Homer Stryker Field, while the Great American Bash on July 4 pairs the season’s largest fireworks display in southwest Michigan with custom Declaration of Independence jerseys. K-Pop Demon Hunters Night on June 27 and Touch-A-Truck Night on June 26 round out a lineup that leaves little room for a dull evening.

Then, there are the drone shows.

On three consecutive nights — June 11, 12, and 13 — 200 drones will take to the sky above the field in a 14-minute production synced to music, telling the story of the Growlers, Kalamazoo, and Michigan through 3-D aerial visuals. It’s the first drone show of its kind in southwest Michigan. For families with young children, veterans, or anyone sensitive to loud noises, it’s worth noting that drone shows run quieter than traditional fireworks.

On July 31, former Detroit Tigers All-Star Cecil Fielder makes a one-day coaching appearance with a meet and greet open to every fan in attendance.

Players also regularly sign autographs for kids after games.

“These D1 players were just these little kids in a big stadium a decade ago with big dreams,” Bugarin says. “They love signing autographs and inspiring the next generation.”

All that adds up to something worth asking directly: Do you need to care about baseball to have a great time at a Growlers game?

At its best, a Growlers game is what Bugarin calls a vacation in your backyard.

“I think about the grandma in the grandstands with her grandchildren making a memory that will last a lifetime,” he says. “Or a dad dancing with his daughter during a postgame concert. Or a local business owner surprises their employees with a night out as a thank you for their hard work. Those are the moments we live for.”

With so much happening across the entire summer, all that’s left is to figure out when to show up.

When Do the Kalamazoo Growlers Play in 2026?

The season is already underway, and with 36 home games running through mid-August, there’s still plenty of summer left to catch a game. Twelve of those games fall on Fridays and Saturdays, making it easy to build a Growlers game into a regular weekend plan without much rearranging. Five weekend series, two doubleheaders, and 15 theme nights fill out the home schedule with plenty of variety.

For specific dates, the full 2026 schedule is available on the Growlers’ website.

A Growlers game is a vacation in your backyard, and once you’ve gone, you’ll completely understand. The Kalamazoo summer is waiting, and so is your seat at Homer Stryker Field.

Whether you’re planning a family night out, a group outing, or just looking for something fun to do on the weekend, a Growlers game delivers the kind of night that’s hard to replicate anywhere else in southwest Michigan.
