(Thunder Bay, ONT) – The MoonDogs (14-17) were down 8-3 entering the seventh and rallied to enter the ninth down just two runs, but could not pull out the victory on Monday night in Thunder Bay. The MoonDogs were led by a pair of homeruns from outfielder CJ Belanger and first baseman Cody Decker.

Belanger had a huge night going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a homerun, two runs scored, and an RBI. Decker was 2-for-5 with a homerun, two runs scored, and two RBI. The MoonDogs recorded thirteen hits, including two-hit nights from outfielder James Keithley and third baseman Adam Abraham, who each doubled in the game. Keithley scored twice and Abraham drove in a run. Second baseman Sean Nicol also doubled and drove in a run, and shortstop Jason Christian singled and recorded an RBI.

MoonDogs starter Matt Mossey (2-4) had a rough first inning, allowing four runs, but bounced back to throw seven innings, giving up eight runs, five earned, on seven hits. Tim Ryan threw a scoreless eighth in relief.

The Border Cats (12-19) left fielder Kyle Dudley, who went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored, and three RBI. Catcher Danny Benedetti and first baseman Terry Goddard each drove in a run for Thunder Bay. Seven different Border Cats scored, led by Goddard and shortstop Marshall Davis, who each doubled in the game.

Border Cat pitching was led by starter Morgan Carlile (3-2), who went seven innings and gave up four runs on nine hits in the win. Reliever Kirk Barnard came in and gave up two runs without getting an out and Erik Van Matre and Ryan Ackland shut down the MoonDogs leading to closer Chris Manning’s sixth save of the season.
