(Mankato-MN)–Carlos Ramirez’s (Chandler-Gilbert CC) three-run home run in the fifth inning helped propel the MoonDogs to an eventual 7-2 win over the Bullfrogs Friday night in Green Bay. The win also pushes the MoonDogs league leading record to 7-1 on the season.

The Bullfrogs (4-5) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the MoonDogs quickly tied it at 1-1 in the second inning.

After the Bullfrogs scored another run in the fourth, the MoonDogs quickly answered in the fifth inning. With already one run on the board in the fifth, Ramirez hit a three-run home run with two outs and runners at first and third base to give the MoonDogs a 5-2 lead. It was Ramirez’s second home run of the season and is now tied for the league lead in home runs (2) and RBI (11).

In the top of the ninth inning, the MoonDogs would tack on two more insurance runs to give them a 7-2 victory.

Bobby Munoz (St. Leo Univ.) finished the game 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Wes Freie (Iowa), who leads the league in hitting (.469), went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

MoonDogs starting pitcher Andrew Reck (Iowa Central CC) finished with 4 1/3 innings and gave up both Bullfrogs runs. Blake Devries (Concordia-St. Paul), who relieved Reck, pitched 1 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit and struck out two to pick up the win.

With the victory, the MoonDogs have won three straight and are now 4-1 on their current six-game road trip.

The MoonDogs wrap up their six-game road trip in Green Bay, Wisconsin on Saturday night. On Monday, June 9th (7:05 PM) the MoonDogs return home to begin a six-game home stand against the same Bullfrogs team. It will be Meet-the-MoonDogs Monday presented by Sport PiX.
