(Mankato, MN) Center Fielder Michael Rockett (Texas-San Antonio) led off the first and third innings with doubles and scored the first two runs of the game for Mankato. Blake DeVries (Concordia-St. Paul) pitched seven solid innings for the MoonDogs and struck out a season high ten, but it was the Bullfrogs’ lack of control from the bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning that eventually led to a MoonDog victory.

Nate Hanson (Minnesota) who was 1-for-3 with two runs scored in the game, reached base in the eighth on an error, stole second, and then the control struggle came for Green Bay. The Bullfrog bullpen walked two batters, eventually walking Hanson in, and hit two batters as the MoonDogs scored two runs to reclaim the lead 5-3.

In the top of the inning, the Bullfrogs mounted a comeback against the MoonDog bullpen. Returning pitcher Joshua Castanza (Hillsborough CC) also experienced some problems with his control, walking two batters and allowing one hit. Castanza was charged with the three runs that the Bullfrogs scored. Zach Calhoon (Texas-San Antonio) came into a tough situation, but pitched the MoonDogs out of the inning, getting the last two outs, and ending up as the pitcher of record as the MoonDogs scored in the bottom of the eighth. He evens his win-loss record to 1-1 on the season with the victory. Erik Hamren (UC-Irvine) came into the game in the ninth inning to record his second save of the season.

Starter DeVries finished the game going seven scoreless, striking out 10, allowing three hits, and walking two battters. Green Bay starter Tim Jolly also had a solid pitching performance going six innings allowing three runs on six hits, but neither pitcher figured in the decision.

The MoonDogs will continue their home stand Wednesday night against the Alexandria Beetles. The game is scheduled to start at 7:05 CDT. For tickets or information about the game, contact the MoonDog Ticket Office at (507)-625-7047.
