Duluth, Minn. –the Mankato MoonDogs lost an extra inning heartbreaker to the Duluth Huskies, 8-7 Wednesday afternoon at Wade Stadium.

Matt Mazzoni (Fresno Pacific) pitched great for the MoonDogs, going eight strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits, but picked up the no-decision as the Mankato bullpen fell flat for the second consecutive day. Mazzoni (1-0) took a two hit shutout into the seventh inning before Kevin Kuntz (Kansas) laced an RBI single into left field, giving the Huskies their first run of the game.

Mazzoni made it through the eighth inning, preserving a 4-1 lead for the MoonDogs before giving way to closer Nick Goody (LSU). Goody labored in the ninth allowing three runs on five hits, but kept the game alive as he threw out AJ Robinson (Scottsdale CC) at home on an attempted suicide squeeze for the final out of the inning.

The MoonDogs bats came to life once again in the top of the 10th inning scoring three runs on five hits against Huskies relief pitcher Jason Whalen (Lynn), but the MoonDogs bullpen faltered in the bottom half of the inning. Aaron Page (Dakota County Tech) managed to record two outs, but walked the bases loaded, so the MoonDogs turned once again to Ethan Opsahl (Dakota Wesleyan) to record the final out. AJ Robinson Tripled in three runs to tie the ballgame, but on the very next pitch JD Dorgan (St. Johns) singled off the wall in left field, giving Duluth a walk off win for the second straight night.

The MoonDogs continue their five game road trip Thursday in Alexandria as they take on the Beetles, in a short two game series. Abel Guerrero (1-0) gets the start for Mankato, as they try to end this two game losing streak.
